Description
A sideboard in mahogany, made by an english cabinetmaker in the early 1900s. Has two drawers inside, one with dividers. Elegant and thoughtful proportions. This sideboard has amazing patina and details which tell parts of its story. The selection of the mahogany of the front doors is solid bookmatched mahogany, with beautiful imperfections; wabi sabi in its essence. This selection of imperfect boards could have been made because it was for the cabinetmaker himself. All joints and details show true craftsmanship. Interesting detail is that a keyhole cover has been added later on in the cabinet's life, on the side where there is no keyhole. When one looks into it it shows clear traces that several attempts have been made to use this keyhole. The original keyhole cover on the real keyhole has been lost. On the backside a hole has been made later on to allow cables to enter the inside of the cabinet. Wonderful piece of furniture, shows clear signs of use in accordance to its age. Fully functional. Hxwxd: 84x110x54cm.
