Description
Cod 0896. Magnificent painting from the second half of the 18th century. Oil on canvas artwork of excellent pictorial quality as it is a workshop replica of francesco solimena (1657-1747), lacking authentication. The painting depicts a biblical episode of great charm, bathsheba bathing. From the terrace of his palace, king david notices a beautiful woman bathing and falls in love with her. However, bathsheba is the wife of one of his generals and to have her, the king will send her husband to the front line where he will lose his life. The woman is surrounded by beautiful slaves intent on washing her and playing musical instruments. In the distance we can see the incredible architecture of jerusalem while on the left we glimpse king david. Painting of remarkable pictorial quality, particularly evident in the creation of the wonderful drapes of the clothes and in moving details, such as the little dog at the bottom left. 20th century frame in carved and gilded wood, with some signs of aging. Painting that has undergone restoration with relining, replacement of the frame and recoloring in some places. Overall in good state of conservation. Sight size h 101 X w 126 cm.
