Description
Designed by jules wabbes and manufactured by le mobilier universel in belgium in the late 1950s, this desk embodies structured charm. Its solid chrome steel frame matches perfectly with the pronounced veining of the mahogany and jatoba. The drawers, with discreet handles on their faces, support a sturdy, steam-bent worktop. Each of these handles is adorned with wabbes' signature. With ingenuity, jules wabbes was able to reveal interior elements usually hidden, thus complimenting the remarkable construction of the office. Jules wabbes (1919 - 1974) is considered one of the precursors of modern design in belgium. Inspired by american designers such as edward wormley, he favors solid wood for his designs, giving them a luxurious appeal and timeless sophistication. With a keen eye for detail and remarkable technical mastery, his works remain enduring symbols of his artistic legacy. Literature: jj wabbes, galerie les années 50 and weinstein, pages 22-23; jules wabbes: 1919-1974 interior architect, ferran-wabbes, pages 50-51.
