Very old peulh calabash used for the milk trade. The peulh assume the role of pastoralist of the sahel and guard the herds for most of the villagers of this desert region. So they lead from pasture to pasture their huge mixed flocks (goats, sheep, zebus, camels) and re-stir up by selling the milk of the betes at each stage of their periple. Dry activity and still in force, it is not uncommon to see men or women peulhs on the bush markets easily recognizable by their calabashes of milk even if the latter are more and more often plastic basins of now. The proposed calebassse is extremely old and patinated, lustrous by the fat of the milk it has contained, the wood is in the beginning of petrification. Cracked in places, it has been restored to extend its use with handmade metal staples and tow. Height: 21 cm. Diameter: 37 cm. Weight: 2500 g. Good condition.
